Part 3: Personal Leadership Philosophy
Leaders
I Admire
Michelle
Obama
What
I admire about Michelle Obama and her leadership skills is that she used her
position of power for good. She shows a high level of respect for herself and
others. She is a strong role model to young people and encourages them to work
hard and become future leaders.
Michelle Obama leads by example, she doesn’t simply
say things she acts upon them. She has many different leadership roles and
adapts to them quickly throughout all different roles in her life. She has a
strong character and self-confidence but remains compassionate to all people
from all walks of life.
Cindy
Finlayson
Cindy Finlayson is my boyfriend’s
Mother, and I believe that she is a terrific leader in several different
aspects. Firstly, she is someone I admire greatly in terms of her passion and
how she dedicates herself to her line of work. She has spent over 30 years as a
psychiatric nurse, and has never wanted to stop learning new things.
Additionally, she is someone who always
puts the interests of others before her own, always being selfless and caring
to a near fault. She is loving and cares deeply for those around her, and I
really appreciate that.
Miley
Cyrus
In
addition to being a great artist, I also admire Miley Cyrus’s ability to
inspire and lead the industry. She is an advocate of women, the LGBTQIA+
community, and has been outspoken on issues regarding poverty, homelessness,
and much more.
When celebrities use their platform for
good is something I admire greatly, because it is easy to just live the “celebrity
life,” and they choose to do more. Miley is someone who does that, and also isn’t
afraid to take risks both in her career and her work with the community.
Personal
Philosophy
In doing some research on personal philosophy
I have figured out that my leadership style leans more toward a relational leadership
style. Relational leadership is described as building relationships in the workplace
and using the relationships to work toward accomplishing change, making a
difference, and accomplishing a similar or common goal. This type of leadership
values being empathetic, ethical, and inclusive.
In a leadership role, I value being
authentic and truthful. I believe that being truthful and authentic goes hand
in hand with having empathy. In a leadership role, your team is bound to have
some bad days. Being authentic and having empathy can help you connect to your
team and find out what is going on and help them improve when they aren’t doing
their best.
Another thing I value in a relationship
role is inclusivity. I believe that everyone on a team being able to share ideas
and everyone listens to what other members have to say is very important. I believe
that an entire team should contribute their opinions on any change or decisions
that may be happening. Being a good leader is listening to what your entire
team has to say and allowing them to have a say in a business.
In a leadership role I would like to
have an actual relationship with my teammates. I think getting to know somebody
is really important when being a leader. I have found that when I have been in
a position in a team with a leader, when the leader made genuine connections, I
wanted to work harder and be more efficient. As a leader, I would like to show
genuine concern to a teammate and praise them for good work being done.
As a leader a behaviour I think I would
like to have is to be encouraging. Being able to encourage someone and let them
know how meaningful they are to the team. Having a supportive environment that
promotes innovation and creativity. Making sure that people know the importance
of their work and the process. Making sure everyone believes that they are in some
way making a difference. As a team member, these are some things that I would appreciate
from a leader.
In the end as a leader, I want
everyone to feel involved. I want everyone to know that have a say in any
project or change. People should feel comfortable enough to voice any concerns
or problems they might be having. Having a proper relationship with your teammates
would allow you to know any strengths and weaknesses, knowing these can help
you understand where they will do their best work. As a leader, I would want
everyone to feel comfortable with each other and respected.
